Partnerships
We take collaborations very seriously. As a new breed of “Research Institute”, we find externalizing as important as internalizing. Being thoughtful and intentional about these relationships that transform our research into tactile and practical use cases. The opportunity to connect with those who share a truly authentic interest in ancestral Japanese materials and the possibility that the intelligence that lies therein may serve the world toward a more sustainable future.
MAANA WORKSHOPS + RETREATS
Highly interactive seasonal retreats and daily workshops by Maana Homes. Explore Japan’s ancestral practices to enrich our modern everyday lives. We collaborate with experts to teach us the old ways through the lens of a new perspective, offering intimate experiences that inspire intentional and sustainable living.
Maana projects are born out of the dream to explore what means to live well by weaving Japan's timeless wisdom into modern life.
The word Maana means ‘senses,’ an invitation to a journey that awakens our senses. Immerse yourself in Kyoto’s simple yet profound way of living, where we learn to find beauty in everyday moments.
KAISO
A journalistic art experiment by Kinhiji.
Our roots are said to be from the sea, yet we know very little about it. As inhabitants of a long mountainous archipelago, the Japanese people have developed a deep relationship with sea vegetables over sixteen thousand years.
Seaweed is used across all three sectors of Japanese living: textiles, food, home.
This is a documentation exercise to better understand how a single material can quietly service an entire country’s livelihood and cultural backbone.
