FIELDWORK CLUB

Fieldwork Club is our local activation initiative. Proactively led by students, and supported by Kyoto Research Institute. Members venture into the city streets and countryside mountains to conduct deep research and co-create what it means to live in the "now." Through the following Case Studies, members engage in collaborative problem-solving around sustainable infrastructure design, regional revitalization, natural resource circulation, and the modern application of traditional crafts.

CASE STUDIES

CEREMONIAL FESTIVALS

An ecosystem across a wide range of professionals is necessary to execute Matsuri. Shrine priests, classical musicians, food stall cooks, chochin lamp craftsmen, daiku carpenters, miko shamans, amulet artisans, and fireworks masters to name a few. The aim of this local activation initiative is to examine Matsuri and apply learnings toward community infrastructure.

CHAYAMA REVITALIZATION

In a remote village in the mountains of Kyoto, there is evidence that this micro-region was once a vital tea-producing hub. We have been called to revitalize what once was, but in a sustainable future-forward format. The aim of this local activation initiative is to activate learn from the mountain through active stewardship and responsible utilization of its resources.
